Volunteer Opportunity
Internship for Marketing with an Emphasis on Social Networking Marketing.
The Land Use and Advocacy Trust (“LCAT”) is seeking an energetic intern who has a passion for the environmental and land preservation issues and is interested in helping to organize and formulate a social networking strategy.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with audience development initiatives to attract a broader demographic by upgrading and maintaining a presence on multiple social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and others.
• Assist with the creation and execution of the LCAT’s presence on these sites including layout and design, copy, artwork and multi-media (i.e., audio, video).
• Assist with viral marketing efforts including helping to manage content on social networking sites, executing outbound messages, managing responses and making sure the LCAT is represented in the appropriate manner.
• Assist with the creation and upkeep of the LCAT blog content and participate on other appropriate blogs to promote our programs.
• Interface with other LCAT consultants as necessary for the execution of these projects.
• Assist with general administrative duties including preparing materials, proofing marketing copy, distributing marketing materials, mailings and filing.
Time Requirement:
A minimum of eight hours a week for two semesters or a semester and a summer. A set schedule is not necessary and much of the work can be done off-sight.

Qualifications:
• A marketing, public relations, graphic design, business administration or environmental student with a strong interest in non-profit development and environmental and land preservation issues.
• Must possess the ability to navigate, create and manage social networking pages and to research various sites for possible marketing opportunities. Web page design experience preferred.
• Experience working with digital images, copy and layout.
• Dependable and mature person with strong organizational and writing skills.

Volunteer Opportunity
Grant Research and Grant Writing Internship/Practicum/Independent Study Opportunity
About the Position:
This is a part-time, temporary internship position.
We are seeking an individual to fulfill an important and meaningful role as we prepare for a major funding effort in the late fall/early winter. The student will gain an understanding of how grant making and grant writing work, will be immersed in the cycle of grant writing, and will develop professional writing skills and competencies, as well gain valuable opportunities to research and connect with organizations that provide funding support for land conservation efforts. Depending on the time you can devote, and your research and your writing skills, you will provide essential research for the development of a grant application strategy, and will have an opportunity to draft and produce grant proposals.
Responsibilities could include:
• Researching available and applicable grants
• Data entry and time-lining for grant proposals
• Research, retrieval and assembly of background material for grant proposals
• Drafting of full grant proposals for submission
• Engage in grant writing, fundraising, data management and survey activities
• Other marketing/fundraising activities (web/email/newsletter etc.) as needed and if interested
Requirements:
• One semester, at least 10 hours per week, depending on credit level
• Goal driven graduate student interested in land conservation/advocacy issues
• Strong time-management, organizational, and research skills a must
• Ability to self-motivate, stay on task and work independently
• Work may be performed offsite
• Prior experience in land trust, smart-growth development and/or conservation advocacy and legal issues a plus.
Compensation:
Volunteer Position. Course credit may be available in some academic programs for practicum or independent study. Supervision will be provided by LCAT founder Steve Meltzer, an experienced land conservation attorney and advocate and an Adjunct Professor at the New England School of Law.
